Swordfish (2001)
Official Trailer
Plot Summary
In Swordfish, a long-abandoned U.S. government operation resurfaces as the catalyst for a high-stakes cybercrime conspiracy. In 1986, the United States Drug Enforcement Administration abruptly shut down Operation Swordfish, leaving behind an inaccessible fund of 400 million dollars in illicit money. Over the course of fifteen years, that dormant fortune has grown through compounded interest into a staggering 9.5 billion dollars—untouched, unclaimed, and officially nonexistent.
The man determined to seize this fortune is Gabriel Shear (John Travolta), a smooth-talking yet dangerous visionary who leads a covert anti-terrorist organization known as Black Cell. Convinced that conventional governments have failed to combat global terrorism, Shear believes this money should be redirected to finance an uncompromising private war against international threats.
Accessing the fund, however, requires breaking an uncrackable security system. For this, Shear recruits Stanley Jobson (Hugh Jackman), a brilliant but disgraced hacker recently released from prison. Jobson’s only desire is to reunite with his young daughter, Holly—a dream that remains out of reach without money and freedom from his criminal past.
Forced into an increasingly dangerous game of deception, surveillance, and moral compromise, Jobson must decide whether his skills will serve justice, terrorism, or his own redemption. As alliances shift and motives blur, Swordfish blends cyber-thriller tension with explosive action, questioning who truly controls power in a digital age where information is the ultimate weapon.
