Guerrilla (2009)

Official Trailer

Plot Summary

Guerrilla is the second part of ]Che], focusing on the final and most isolated chapter of Ernesto “Che” Guevara’s revolutionary life. Following the success of the Cuban Revolution, Che leaves behind positions of power and international recognition to ignite a new uprising in Bolivia, convinced that revolution must spread beyond national borders.

Unlike the earlier chapter centered on collective victory, Guerrilla presents a stark, stripped-down portrait of political idealism colliding with harsh reality. As Che and his small band of fighters struggle against the Bolivian army, local mistrust, and severe geographical conditions, the film emphasizes exhaustion, disillusionment, and the slow erosion of hope.

Directed with documentary-like restraint, the film avoids mythologizing its protagonist, instead portraying Che as a determined yet increasingly isolated figure whose unwavering principles come at an immense personal cost. The narrative builds not toward triumph, but toward inevitability, capturing the silence, fear, and moral ambiguity surrounding revolutionary violence.

Guerrilla stands as a somber meditation on failure, conviction, and the limits of ideology, offering a raw and unromantic conclusion to Che Guevara’s cinematic portrait.
