Story Overview

Cell is a chilling apocalyptic horror film adapted from the bestselling novel by Stephen King, exploring the collapse of modern civilization through its greatest dependency: mobile communication.

Clay Riddell (John Cusack), a graphic novel artist, attempts to call his estranged wife Sharon from Boston Logan Airport to share life-changing news—he has just sold the video game rights to his work and plans to reunite with his son Johnny in New Hampshire. Before Sharon can answer, the call abruptly disconnects. Moments later, an unknown signal spreads across GSM networks, triggering uncontrollable, murderous rage in anyone using a mobile phone.

As Boston descends into chaos, Clay narrowly escapes violent attacks and forms an uneasy alliance with Tom McCourt (Samuel Jackson), a subway train conductor. Together, they navigate the dark tunnels beneath the city, pursued relentlessly by the phone-infected. Their journey leads them to Clay’s apartment, where they encounter Alice (Isabelle Fuhrman), a 17-year-old survivor traumatized by the unfolding catastrophe.

With the city engulfed in flames and society rapidly unraveling, the trio heads north in search of Clay’s family. Along the way, they are forced to defend themselves against the increasingly evolved and coordinated “phone users,” whose behavior suggests something far more disturbing than mindless violence.

When they finally reach Clay’s home, the journey takes a devastating turn: Johnny has fallen victim to a deadly phone trap. Faced with an impossible choice, Clay must risk everything to save his son, confronting both the horrors unleashed by technology and the limits of parental sacrifice.
