Official Trailer

Plot Summary

Breakfast on Pluto tells the unconventional and deeply human story of Patrick “Kitten” Braden (Cillian Murphy), a young person abandoned as an infant and left on the doorstep of Father Liam (Liam Neeson). Growing up in a conservative Irish town, Patrick quickly realizes that he is fundamentally different from those around him and refuses to conform, choosing instead to embrace his identity with resilience, wit, and quiet defiance.

As Patrick comes of age, his journey becomes one of self-discovery rather than rebellion. Determined to find his biological mother, he leaves Ireland and travels to Londra, a city that represents both freedom and uncertainty. Along the way, Patrick encounters an extraordinary series of characters and situations that range from whimsical to dangerous, each shaping his understanding of love, belonging, and survival.

Set against the political unrest of the 1970s, the film delicately balances innocence and tragedy, humor and violence. Patrick’s story unfolds as a bittersweet odyssey through identity, gender, and emotional endurance, portraying a character who remains gentle and hopeful despite constant rejection and loss.

Directed by Neil Jordan, Breakfast on Pluto stands out as a tender, visually rich, and emotionally layered drama. Anchored by Cillian Murphy’s remarkable performance, the film offers a compassionate exploration of self-acceptance and the courage it takes to remain true to oneself in a world defined by intolerance and fear.
