Plot Summary

Awake centers on Clay Beresford (Hayden Christensen), the only child of a wealthy family who lost his father at an early age and now suffers from a life-threatening heart condition. As he prepares for a critical heart transplant, Clay begins making sudden, life-altering decisions, choosing independence over the protective control of his mother, Lilith Beresford (Lena Olin), despite her strong objections.

During the surgery, Clay experiences a rare and terrifying condition known as anesthetic awareness. Though completely paralyzed on the operating table, he remains fully conscious—able to hear every word spoken and feel every sensation of pain, yet incapable of reacting or alerting anyone to his condition.

Trapped within his own body, Clay is forced into an intense psychological journey where reality, fear, and suppressed truths collide. As fragments of conversations and sensations seep into his consciousness, he begins to uncover disturbing revelations that challenge his trust in those closest to him, transforming a medical procedure into a nightmarish descent into betrayal and survival.
