William Baldwin
Born on February 21, 1963
Age: 63
Profession: Actor, Former Model
Place of Birth: Massapequa, New York, United States
William Baldwin was born on February 21, 1963, in Massapequa, New York, United States, as the son of Alexander Baldwin and Carol M. Martineau. He is a member of the well-known Baldwin acting family and has several siblings, including Alec Baldwin, Stephen Baldwin, Daniel Baldwin, Jane Sasso, and Elizabeth Keuchler. He graduated from Berner High School and later studied political science for two years at Binghamton University, part of the State University of New York system, before leaving academia to pursue a career in Hollywood.
Before beginning his acting career, William Baldwin worked as a fashion model and appeared in campaigns for the global brand Calvin Klein. This early exposure helped him transition into film acting at the end of the 1980s. He achieved his major breakthrough in 1990 with the science-fiction thriller Flatliners, starring alongside Kiefer Sutherland, Kevin Bacon, and Julia Roberts. The film positioned him as one of Hollywood’s rising leading men of the early 1990s.
In 1991, William Baldwin further solidified his status with the action drama Backdraft, directed by Ron Howard. Appearing opposite Kurt Russell and Robert De Niro, he portrayed firefighter Brian McCaffrey in one of the most commercially successful films of the year. During this period, Baldwin became strongly associated with action, thriller, and crime genres.
Throughout the 1990s, William Baldwin was widely regarded as one of the Baldwin brothers most closely identified with mainstream Hollywood cinema. While Alec Baldwin became known for dramatic and political roles, Stephen Baldwin for television and faith-based projects, and Daniel Baldwin for independent films, William Baldwin emerged as the sibling most associated with high-profile studio productions, particularly in action and suspense films.
Beginning in the 2000s, William Baldwin gradually shifted his career focus toward television, taking on recurring and guest roles in series such as Dirty Sexy Money, Parenthood, and Hot in Cleveland. This transition marked a strategic evolution in his career, allowing him to sustain long-term visibility while expanding his range as a character actor.
In addition to acting, William Baldwin has worked as a producer, including his involvement in the feature film Lymelife. His academic background in political science has often been cited as influential in his portrayals of authority figures, leaders, and decision-makers on screen.
On September 9, 1995, William Baldwin married pop singer Chynna Phillips. The couple has three children: Jamison Baldwin (born 2000), Vance Baldwin (born 2001), and Brooke Baldwin (born 2004). Despite decades of work in film and television, Baldwin has maintained a relatively private personal life.
