Wagner Moura is a Brazilian actor internationally recognized for his intense performances in film and television, most notably for portraying the infamous drug lord Pablo Escobar in the Netflix crime series Narcos. His work bridges Brazilian cinema and global productions, making him one of the most prominent Latin American actors of his generation.

Wagner Maniçoba de Moura was born on June 27, 1976, in Salvador, Bahia, Brazil, and grew up in the small town of Rodelas. His mother, Alderiva, was a homemaker, while his father, José Moura, served as a sergeant in the Brazilian Air Force. Moura pursued higher education at the Federal University of Bahia, where he graduated with a degree in journalism.

During his university years, he co-founded a music band called Sua Mae with close friends, taking on the roles of both vocalist and songwriter. This artistic period played a significant role in shaping his expressive and performative abilities.

Moura began his film career in the late 1990s and appeared in Woman on Top alongside Penelope Cruz. His breakthrough came in 2007 with the film Elite Squad (also known as The Elite Squad), where he portrayed Captain Roberto Nascimento. The film won the Golden Bear at the Berlin International Film Festival, and Moura’s performance received widespread critical acclaim.

He reprised the role in Elite Squad: The Enemy Within, further cementing his status as a leading actor in Brazilian cinema.
