Jennifer Lopez, whose full name is Jennifer Lynn Lopez, was born on July 24, 1969, in the Bronx, a borough of New York City, into a Puerto Rican family. Her mother, Guadalupe Rodriguez Lopez, worked as a kindergarten teacher in New York, while her father, David Lopez, was employed as a computer operator at Guardian Insurance. She has one older sister named Leslie and a younger sister named Lynda. Lopez began performing in musical theater at a very young age and appeared in her first film My Little Girl at just 16 years old. From the age of 19, she worked various jobs such as sales assistant and waitress to afford dance school tuition. Driven by her passion for dance, she left her studies at Baruch University before graduating.



Her entry into the television world began in 1990 after winning the Fox TV dance competition “Fly Girl,” which led to her being cast on the comedy series In Living Color. In 1993, she appeared as a dancer in the music video for Janet Jackson’s song That’s the Way Love Goes. She continued her acting career with roles in television productions such as Second Chances, Hotel Malibu, South Central, and the TV movie Nurses on the Line: The Crash of Flight 7.

Lopez transitioned to cinema with the popular 1995 film Money Train, in which she starred alongside Wesley Snipes and Woody Harrelson. She gained further recognition with her role in My Family, directed by Gregory Nava. In 1996, she worked with Robin Williams under the direction of Francis Ford Coppola in Jack. She appeared opposite Jack Nicholson in Blood and Wine in 1997. In 1998, she starred with George Clooney in Out of Sight, receiving a record-breaking salary for a Latina actress at the time. Her portrayal in Selena marked her definitive entry into the music world as well.

In 1999, she released one of the summer’s best-selling albums, On the 6. This was followed by the globally successful single “Waiting for Tonight.” In 2007, she released her first Spanish-language album Como Ama una Mujer, with the single “Qué Hiciste” achieving worldwide success. Jennifer Lopez is also highly successful in the fashion industry, owning a clothing line called JLO by Jennifer Lopez. In 2002, she opened a Cuban restaurant named Madre’s in Pasadena, California. According to Forbes Magazine, she ranked 11th on the “World’s Richest Celebrities” list in 2007.

Her second marriage was to Cris Judd on September 29, 2001; they divorced in June 2002.
After her second divorce, she began a relationship with actor and director Ben Affleck, becoming engaged in November 2002 before separating in January 2004.
Her third marriage was to singer Marc Anthony in 2004; they divorced in 2011. They have twins born in 2007 named Emme Maribel Muniz and Maximilian David Muniz.
Her fourth marriage was to actor Ben Affleck on July 16, 2022. The couple separated on April 26, 2024, and officially divorced on January 6, 2025.
