Henry Mountbatten-Windsor, born on 15 September 1984 in London, England, is a member of the British royal family of the House of Windsor and the younger son of Charles, Prince of Wales and Diana Spencer. His full name is Henry Charles Albert David. He is the grandson of Queen Elizabeth II and is sixth in the line of succession to the British throne. He has an older brother, Prince William (born 21 June 1982). His parents separated on 9 December 1992 and were officially divorced on 28 August 1996. In 1997, at the age of 13, he lost his mother Diana Spencer in a car accident in Paris.



Henry Mountbatten-Windsor was educated at Ludgrove School and Wetherby School before attending Eton College between 1998 and 2003. After completing his schooling, he spent time in Australia and Lesotho. Between 2005 and 2006, he trained at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, preparing for a career in the British Army.

Between 2007 and 2008, Henry Mountbatten-Windsor served for more than ten weeks as a lieutenant in Helmand Province, Afghanistan. On 10 March 2011, he qualified as a helicopter pilot. He returned to Afghanistan for another deployment in 2013. In 2015, he officially ended his active military service.

On 19 May 2018, Henry Mountbatten-Windsor married American actress Meghan Markle at St George’s Chapel in Windsor, England. Following their marriage, he was granted the title Duke of Sussex, while Meghan Markle became Duchess of Sussex. On 6 May 2019, the couple welcomed their son, named Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor.

On 9 January 2020, Henry Mountbatten-Windsor and his wife Meghan Markle announced their decision to step back from their senior roles within the British royal family, marking a significant turning point in his public life and relationship with the monarchy.
