In 1968, she appeared for the first time on the television program The Tonight Show and was awarded the Model of the Year title the same year.
Her first major breakthrough in cinema came in 1971 with The Last Picture Show, in which she portrayed a seductive young woman living in a haunted small town atmosphere. The role established her as a major new talent of American cinema and launched a long and varied film career.
In 1985, Cybill Shepherd achieved international television fame by starring opposite Bruce Willis in the detective series Moonlighting, where she played the glamorous and sharp-witted Maddie Hayes, co-owner of a detective agency. The immense popularity of the series significantly boosted her film career and solidified her status as a television icon.
