Anya Taylor-Joy was born on April 16, 1996, in Miami, Florida, United States, as the youngest of six siblings. Four of her siblings are from her father’s previous marriage. Her full name is Anya Josephine Marie Taylor-Joy. At the time of her birth, her family was vacationing in Miami, and shortly afterward they moved to Argentina, where she spent most of her childhood.

Her father, Dennis Taylor, is of Scottish-Argentine descent and was born in Argentina, while her mother, Jennifer Marina Joy-Morancho, is of Spanish-English heritage, born in Zambia to an English diplomat father and a Spanish mother from Barcelona. Her father worked as a banker and powerboat racer, and her mother was a psychologist. Anya Taylor-Joy lived in Buenos Aires until the age of six, after which her family relocated to London.



She attended Hill House International Junior School and Queen's Gate School, where she began performing in school theater productions.
