Aamir Khan is one of the most internationally recognized Indian actors and one of the most influential figures in contemporary Indian cinema. Known for his perfectionism, selective filmography, and socially conscious storytelling, he has played a decisive role in shaping modern Bollywood. His full name is Mohammed Aamir Hussain Khan. He was born into a Muslim family; his father, Tahir Hussain, was a film producer, and his mother is Zeenat Khan. He has three siblings: Faisal Khan, Nikhat Khan, and Farhat Khan. He received his education at Aziz Annes School, Bandra, Bombay Scottish School, Mumbai, and later attended Narsee Monjee College, Vile Parle, Mumbai.

Aamir Khan made his first appearance in cinema as a child actor in 1973 in the film Yaadon Ki Baaraat, directed by his uncle Nasir Hussain. As an adult actor, he became known for choosing family-oriented romantic musicals and socially driven dramas, deliberately distancing himself from action-heavy and violence-centered films. Beyond cinema, he also achieved success in sports, becoming the Maharashtra state tennis champion in 1985.

In 2001, Aamir Khan founded his own production company, Aamir Khan Productions, and produced his first film Lagaan. The film achieved international acclaim and was selected as India’s official submission for the 74th Academy Awards in the category of Best Foreign Language Film. This milestone firmly established him as both a creative and commercial force in global cinema.

On November 30, 2011, Aamir Khan was appointed UNICEF’s National Ambassador for Peace. In 2012, he performed the Hajj pilgrimage. On May 6, 2012, his first television program Satyamev Jayate premiered on the Star Plus network, focusing on major social issues in India and further strengthening his public influence beyond film.

Aamir Khan is also closely connected to the film industry through his family; his nephew Imran Khan is an actor as well. Films produced under Aamir Khan Productions have been noted for their critical depth and box-office success. He is both the lead actor and producer of the Oscar-nominated Lagaan and is widely regarded as one of Bollywood’s highest-grossing actors and most respected filmmaker-performers.

Aamir Khan was married to film producer Reena Dutta from April 18, 1986, to December 9, 2002. The couple has two children, a daughter Ira Khan and a son Junaid Khan. He later married director Kiran Rao on December 28, 2005, and they have a son named Azad Rao Khan (born 2011).
