Story Overview

The Mist follows the terrifying aftermath of a violent storm that descends upon a quiet small town. When an unnatural and seemingly endless fog rolls in from the surrounding mountains, local artist David Drayton (Thomas Jane) and his young son Billy seek refuge inside a supermarket along with dozens of frightened residents.

At first the dense mist appears to be nothing more than a strange weather phenomenon. But David soon realizes that something far more sinister lurks within it. Hidden in the thick white fog are grotesque creatures—deadly, otherworldly predators that attack anyone who dares to step outside. As panic spreads among the trapped townspeople, survival becomes increasingly uncertain.

While the monsters outside pose an obvious threat, the true danger may lie within the supermarket itself. Fear, paranoia, and desperation quickly fracture the group into opposing factions. As rational thinking collapses and hysteria takes hold, David must struggle not only against the horrifying creatures beyond the doors but also against the unpredictable and increasingly dangerous behavior of the people around him.

Adapted from a novella by Stephen King and directed by Frank Darabont—the filmmaker behind The Shawshank Redemption and The Green Mile—the film blends creature horror with psychological tension, exploring how quickly civilization can unravel when fear and survival instincts collide.
