The Good Night (2008)
Official Trailer
Plot Summary
Gary, portrayed by Martin Freeman, is a man quietly unraveling as nearly every aspect of his life slips out of alignment. His marriage to Dora, played by Gwyneth Paltrow, is strained and emotionally distant, and his professional life offers little satisfaction or sense of purpose.
The only refuge Gary finds is within his dreams. Night after night, he escapes into a surreal inner world where he encounters a mysterious woman who represents everything missing from his waking life. These dreams become his emotional sanctuary, a place where hope and desire still feel possible.
When Gary unexpectedly encounters the woman from his dreams in the real world, reality fails to deliver the salvation he imagined. Instead of clarity or fulfillment, the boundaries between fantasy and reality begin to blur, pulling Gary into a more unsettling and strangely comic exploration of longing, disappointment, and the fragile nature of happiness.
The Good Night is an introspective and offbeat romantic drama that examines how dreams can both sustain and deceive us, questioning whether escape is ever a true substitute for confronting life as it is.
