The Batman (2022)

Official Trailer

Plot Summary

After two years of stalking the streets as Batman and striking fear into the hearts of criminals, Bruce Wayne finds himself drawn deep into the darkest core of Gotham City. When a mysterious serial killer known as the Riddler begins targeting Gotham’s elite with a series of sadistic and calculated murders, Batman is forced into a relentless investigation that exposes long-buried corruption within the city.

As he follows a trail of cryptic clues, Batman’s path intersects with Selina Kyle, also known as Catwoman, Oswald Cobblepot—better known as the Penguin—and powerful crime boss Carmine Falcone. Each encounter pulls Batman further into a moral labyrinth where justice, vengeance, and truth are dangerously intertwined.

The tortured and antisocial Bruce Wayne/Batman portrayed by Robert Pattinson spends much of the film investigating the murder of Gotham’s mayor, Don Mitchell Jr., while confronting his own limitations as both a vigilante and a symbol. Gotham itself becomes a character—decaying, rain-soaked, and suffocating under decades of systemic corruption.

Joining Robert Pattinson are Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman, Colin Farrell as the Penguin, Paul Dano as the Riddler, Jeffrey Wright as James Gordon, Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth, and John Turturro as crime lord Carmine Falcone, each delivering performances that deepen the film’s noir atmosphere.

Designed as the opening chapter of what is planned as the “Batman Crime Saga,” the film represents a grounded, detective-driven reinterpretation of the iconic hero. For Batman fans, this entry stands out not only for its dark tone and methodical storytelling, but also as one of Robert Pattinson’s most acclaimed performances to date.
