Minority Report (2002)

Official Trailer

Plot Summary

Minority Report is set in Washington in the year 2054, where murder has seemingly been eliminated before it can ever occur. Thanks to a revolutionary law-enforcement system, crimes are predicted and prevented in advance. At the heart of this system is the Precrime Division, which operates using three psychic beings known as the Pre-Cogs. These gifted individuals can foresee violent acts in precise detail, allowing authorities to arrest criminals before they commit their crimes. The Pre-Cogs are believed to be infallible, making Precrime the most perfect crime-prevention organization ever created.

The driving force behind this system is John Anderton, portrayed by Tom Cruise, the dedicated chief of the Precrime Division. Years earlier, Anderton suffered the tragic loss of his young son, an event that pushed him to devote his life entirely to the system in order to prevent others from experiencing similar pain. For six years, he has worked tirelessly to ensure that Precrime operates flawlessly, never once questioning its accuracy or moral foundation.

Everything changes when the system suddenly identifies Anderton himself as the next murderer. According to the Pre-Cogs’ vision, he will kill a man he has never met within the next 36 hours. Branded a fugitive, Anderton is forced to run through a city where every movement is tracked, vehicles are automatically controlled, and even his own eyes betray his identity. As his former division comes under the control of his rival Danny Witwer, portrayed by Colin Farrell, Anderton must fight against the very organization he helped build. While desperately searching for proof of his innocence, he begins to question the one belief he has always trusted: can the Pre-Cogs truly be incapable of making mistakes?
