Plot Summary

A family leaves behind the chaos and routine of urban life to spend time in a remote countryside home inherited from the grandfather. The father Alex (Konstantin Lavronenko), his wife Vera (Maria Bonnevie), and their two children arrive in a quiet rural town that holds deep personal significance for Alex, as it is the place of his birth.

Surrounded by vast landscapes and the silence of nature, the family attempts to adjust to a slower, more demanding way of life. What initially appears to be a peaceful retreat gradually reveals underlying tensions within the family. The isolation of the countryside begins to amplify emotional distances, unspoken conflicts, and buried secrets.

As the days pass, the fragile balance within the family starts to fracture. Vera’s unexpected confession sets off a chain of events that challenges Alex’s perception of trust, love, and responsibility. The serene environment turns into a stage for psychological confrontation, where every decision carries irreversible consequences.

Directed by Andrey Zvyagintsev, Izgnanie presents a slow-burning, atmospheric narrative that explores themes of guilt, alienation, and the complexity of human relationships, all framed within hauntingly beautiful natural settings.
