Story Overview

Hacksaw Ridge is a powerful World War II drama based on the true story of Desmond T. Doss, an American Army combat medic whose unwavering moral convictions set him apart from every soldier around him. Raised with strong religious beliefs, Doss refuses to carry a weapon or take another human life, yet remains determined to serve his country on the front lines of war.

Despite facing ridicule, discrimination, and severe pressure from his fellow soldiers and commanding officers, Doss insists on serving as a medic, committed solely to saving lives. His resolve is tested during the brutal Battle of Okinawa, where American forces confront overwhelming enemy resistance on a deadly cliff known as Hacksaw Ridge.

Under relentless fire and extreme conditions, Doss repeatedly risks his own life to rescue wounded soldiers, lowering them to safety one by one without ever firing a shot. His extraordinary courage and compassion lead to the rescue of dozens of men and ultimately earn him the Medal of Honor, making him the first conscientious objector in U.S. history to receive the nation’s highest military decoration.

Hacksaw Ridge delivers an intense and emotionally charged portrayal of war while honoring the strength of faith, conscience, and humanity in the face of unimaginable violence.
