Story Overview

Once a celebrated star of classic Western films, Howard Spence (Sam Shepard) is now a broken man drifting through life, lost in alcohol, drugs, and the ruins of his former fame. Having squandered his fortune and reputation, Howard spends his days aimlessly, accompanied only by an overwhelming sense of isolation and regret.

During a film shoot, he abruptly abandons the set and embarks on a restless journey across the American landscape. This escape is not merely an act of rebellion, but a quiet admission of defeat—a man fleeing from both his past and himself, unsure of where he belongs or why he should keep moving forward.

Howard’s directionless existence is suddenly disrupted when he learns that he may have a child from a past relationship. The revelation ignites an emotion he has not felt in years: hope. Without knowing whether the child is a son or a daughter, he sets out on the road once more, this time driven by the possibility of redemption.

As Howard searches for a family he never knew, he is forced to confront the emotional wreckage he has left behind. The journey becomes an intimate exploration of aging, lost identity, and the fragile chance of reconnection, as a man who once lived in the spotlight struggles to discover whether it is still possible to begin again.
