Story Overview

American History X follows Derek Vinyard (Edward Norton), a charismatic and dangerous leader of a white supremacist group driven by hatred and extremist ideology. After brutally murdering a Black man, Derek is sentenced to prison, where he undergoes a profound transformation that forces him to confront the consequences of his beliefs and actions.

Upon his release, Derek is no longer the man he once was. Haunted by guilt and regret, he desperately tries to prevent his younger brother Danny (Edward Furlong) from following the same destructive path. However, escaping the grip of hatred proves far more difficult than he imagined.

Through a powerful and unsettling narrative, the film explores themes of racism, redemption, and the cyclical nature of violence within a family. It presents a stark and thought-provoking examination of how prejudice is learned, perpetuated, and ultimately challenged.
