Pamela Jo Bondi is an American attorney and politician who has served as the Attorney General of the United States since February 5, 2025. A member of the Republican Party, Pam Bondi previously served as the Attorney General of the State of Florida from 2011 to 2019, becoming the first woman elected to that office.

Pam Bondi was born on November 17, 1965, in Tampa, Florida, United States. She completed her legal education at University of Florida and Stetson University. A significant portion of her professional career was spent at the Hillsborough County State Attorney’s Office, where she served as a prosecutor for more than 18 years, gaining extensive experience particularly in criminal law.

In the 2010 elections, Pam Bondi was elected as Florida’s first female attorney general. During her tenure, she prioritized combating human trafficking, drug-related crimes, and issues of public safety. She publicly advocated for tougher state laws against human traffickers and built a high-profile public image through her stance on these issues.

Pam Bondi has maintained a long-standing political relationship with Donald Trump. She was among the earliest prominent figures to support him during the 2016 presidential election. Her appearances on Fox News and her speech at the 2016 Republican National Convention brought her national recognition. In that speech, her response to chants targeting Trump’s opponent Hillary Clinton drew widespread attention.

Following Donald Trump’s election as President of the United States, Pam Bondi joined the presidential transition team and later served as a member of the Opioid and Drug Addiction Commission during Trump’s first term. In 2020, she was part of Trump’s defense team during his first impeachment trial, defending him against allegations that he had pressured Ukraine to investigate political rival Joe Biden by withholding military aid. Trump was ultimately acquitted by the United States Senate.

During Pam Bondi’s tenure as Florida attorney general, controversies arose regarding fraud allegations connected to Trump University and political donations linked to the Trump Foundation. Bondi denied claims that the donations were tied to legal decisions and stated that her office had made all related documents public. Subsequently, the Trump Foundation was dissolved in 2018 under court supervision following a lawsuit by the New York Attorney General, and was fined as part of the settlement.

By 2024, Pam Bondi was serving as the head of the Litigation Center at the America First Policy Institute, a think tank closely associated with Donald Trump. That same year, after the withdrawal of previous nominee Matt Gaetz, she was nominated by President-elect Trump as Attorney General of the United States. She officially assumed office on February 5, 2025, succeeding Merrick Garland in the role.

Pam Bondi has also drawn attention for her strong criticism of special counsel Jack Smith, who led investigations into Trump related to classified documents and election results. She has been among the legal figures defending Trump in these cases and publicly voiced claims questioning the fairness of the 2020 presidential election.

In her personal life, Pam Bondi has been married twice, to Garret Barnes and Scott Fitzgerald. Her family includes her parents Joseph Bondi and Patsy Bondi, as well as her siblings Beth Bondi McIntyre and Brad Bondi. Throughout her career, Pam Bondi has emerged as an influential and often controversial figure in both the legal and political arenas of the United States.
