Herbert Clark Hoover was born on August 10, 1874, in West Branch, Iowa, United States. In 1891, he became one of the first students to enroll at Stanford University in California during its inaugural academic year, where he studied geology.

After graduating in 1895, Hoover moved to Nevada and began working as a mining engineer. He later served as a consultant in newly opened gold mines in Australia. Over the next fifteen years, he traveled extensively to some of the most remote regions of the world, conducting mining research and holding positions in various mining enterprises, establishing an international reputation in the field.

With the outbreak of World War I in 1917, Hoover’s administrative expertise led to his appointment as head of the Commission for Relief in Europe and later as Director of Food Administration. During the war years, large-scale food and clothing aid was collected in the United States and distributed to civilian populations in Belgium and France, earning Hoover global recognition for humanitarian leadership.

Between 1920 and 1928, Herbert Clark Hoover served as U.S. Secretary of Commerce. In November 1928, he was elected President of the United States as the Republican Party candidate.

Shortly after assuming office, the United States was struck by the economic collapse of 1929. The New York Stock Exchange crash plunged the nation into the most severe economic crisis in its history, later known as the Great Depression. Hoover was unable to reverse the downturn, and the crisis persisted throughout his presidency. In the subsequent election, he was defeated by Franklin D. Roosevelt by a wide margin.

After leaving office, Hoover wrote numerous books and articles and served as an advisor to several succeeding presidents. Although he remained distant from active politics for many years, in 1946 he was appointed to lead relief efforts for nations impoverished in the aftermath of World War II.

Herbert Clark Hoover married Lou Henry Hoover. The couple had two sons: Herbert Hoover Jr. and Allan Hoover.

Herbert Clark Hoover died on October 20, 1964, at the age of 90, in New York City, United States.
