The Weather Man (2005)
Official Trailer
Plot Summary
Set in modern-day Chicago, The Weather Man follows the seemingly enviable life of local TV meteorologist David Spritz (Nicolas Cage). He is famous, well-paid, works only a couple of hours a day, and is widely considered a top contender for a prestigious national morning show. On the surface, David appears to embody professional success and public admiration.
Yet behind the smiling forecasts and studio lights, his personal life is steadily unraveling. Recently divorced, emotionally distant from his children, and deeply insecure, David struggles with a persistent sense of inadequacy. His internal conflict is further intensified by the presence of his celebrated father, a Pulitzer Prize–winning author (Michael Caine), whose intellectual authority and emotional coldness leave David perpetually seeking approval he never receives.
Balancing dark humor with quiet melancholy, The Weather Man explores themes of masculinity, generational expectations, and the hollow nature of conventional success. As David attempts to regain control over both his career and his fractured family life, the film offers a sharply observed, ironic portrait of a man confronting the uncomfortable truth that professional achievement does not necessarily bring personal fulfillment.
