Plot Summary
THE PIANIST is a haunting biographical war drama directed by Roman Polanski, based on the memoir of Polish-Jewish pianist Władysław Szpilman. Set against the devastation of World War II, the film follows Szpilman’s struggle for survival in Nazi-occupied Warsaw as the Jewish population is forced into the ghetto and later deported to extermination camps.
As his family is torn away, Szpilman survives through a combination of resilience, silence, and chance encounters, hiding among the ruins of the city he once filled with music. His identity as an artist becomes both a burden and a fragile lifeline in a world where humanity is systematically erased.
