Story Overview

A gifted and charismatic doctor, Wren Petersen (Charlize Theron), is stationed in one of Africa’s most volatile conflict zones, dedicating her life to humanitarian medical work. Amid relentless violence and human suffering, she meets Miguel Leon (Javier Bardem), a fellow aid worker driven by the same commitment to saving lives in the heart of chaos.

As they work side by side in war-torn Liberia, a powerful romantic connection develops between them. While love comes naturally, sustaining it proves far more difficult. Both Wren and Miguel are consumed by their demanding, dangerous work, where every decision can mean life or death and emotional detachment often feels like a necessity for survival.

Surrounded by civil war, displacement, and moral dilemmas, the couple shares a deep passion not only for each other but also for finding the most humane solutions within an inhumane conflict.
