Story Overview

The Boxtrolls is set beneath the charming cobblestone streets of Cheesebridge, a town gripped by an age-old legend about mysterious creatures said to emerge from the sewers at night to steal children and cheese. Known as the Boxtrolls, these supposed monsters are feared and misunderstood by the townsfolk.

In reality, the Boxtrolls are gentle, quirky beings who live in vast underground caverns, wearing recycled cardboard boxes like protective shells. Far from being villains, they form a close-knit community built on curiosity, invention, and kindness.

Among them is Eggs, a human orphan raised by the Boxtrolls from infancy. Growing up in their subterranean world, Eggs learns their inventive ways, helping with mechanical contraptions and scavenging systems while embracing their unconventional family values.

As fear and ignorance threaten the Boxtrolls’ existence, Eggs begins to question the myths surrounding them and seeks to bridge the gap between the underground world and the surface society. The film blends whimsical humor with heartfelt themes, delivering a visually rich stop-motion adventure about identity, acceptance, and the courage to challenge long-held prejudices.
