Plot Summary

Sara Goldfarb (Ellen Burstyn), television addiction shapes the lonely routine of a widowed mother whose greatest dream is to appear on her favorite game show. When she receives a call that she may be selected, her excitement quickly turns into obsession. Determined to fit into her cherished red dress, Sara begins using diet pills, gradually descending into a dangerous spiral fueled by amphetamines and delusion.

Meanwhile, her son Harry (Jared Leto) and his girlfriend Marion (Jennifer Connelly) attempt to build a better future through quick money schemes involving heroin. Alongside their friend Tyrone (Marlon Wayans), they chase fleeting highs and illusions of success, unaware that their growing dependence on drugs is tightening an irreversible grip on their lives.

Adapted from the novel by Hubert Selby Jr. and brought to the screen by Darren Aronofsky and Selby himself, Requiem for a Dream presents a haunting and unflinching portrayal of addiction. Through its hypnotic editing, visceral imagery, and emotionally devastating performances, the film explores the destructive nature of obsession and the fragile line between hope and self-destruction.
