Plot Summary

Mulholland Dr. follows a mysterious story that begins when a dark-haired woman (Laura Harring) survives a car accident on the winding Mulholland Drive in Los Angeles. Injured and suffering from amnesia, she wanders into a nearby apartment where she encounters Betty Elms (Naomi Watts), an optimistic young actress who has just arrived in Hollywood to pursue her dreams.

Betty decides to help the frightened stranger uncover her identity. Using the name “Rita,” the woman begins searching for clues about her past with Betty’s assistance. As they follow fragments of evidence scattered across the city, their investigation slowly reveals strange connections, unsettling encounters, and a series of enigmatic figures tied to the darker side of Hollywood.

Directed by David Lynch, the film blends dreamlike imagery with psychological tension, gradually blurring the boundary between reality, illusion, and fantasy.
