Plot Summary

Mortdecai follows the eccentric and impeccably mannered art dealer Charlie Mortdecai (Johnny Depp), a man of refined tastes whose extravagant lifestyle begins to crumble under mounting financial pressure. Deeply devoted to his intelligent and alluring wife Johanna (Gwyneth Paltrow), Charlie is determined to reclaim the luxurious life he believes is rightfully his.

Hope arrives in the form of a long-lost painting attributed to Goya, rumored to conceal the access code to a secret bank account filled with stolen Nazi gold. The British intelligence service MI5 offers Charlie an irresistible deal: recover the painting, and his debts will be erased. What appears to be a simple art recovery mission quickly spirals into international chaos when it turns out the painting has already been stolen.

Joined by the obsessive and relentlessly competitive private investigator Alistair Martland (Ewan McGregor), who harbors an unspoken affection for Johanna, Charlie is forced into an uneasy partnership that tests both his patience and his marriage.
