Story Overview

Envy centers on Tim (Ben Stiller) and Nick (Jack Black), two inseparable friends who are neighbors as well as business partners. While Tim is cautious and conventional, Nick is driven by an obsession with getting rich quickly and escaping the monotony of his ordinary life.

Nick’s ambition unexpectedly pays off when he invents a bizarre product called the Vapoorizer, a spray capable of vaporizing dog waste and similar substances by dispersing them harmlessly into the air. The invention becomes a massive commercial success, instantly transforming Nick into a wealthy entrepreneur and turning his once-absurd idea into a lucrative empire.

As Nick’s fortune grows, Tim finds himself increasingly consumed by jealousy and resentment. Feeling overshadowed and left behind, Tim begins to question his loyalty and moral compass. His envy gradually turns into obsession, pushing him to believe that he deserves a share of Nick’s success—no matter the cost.

Blending dark humor with satirical commentary, Envy explores the corrosive nature of greed, friendship, and unchecked ambition. As Tim’s actions spiral out of control, the film reveals how the pursuit of wealth can distort relationships and lead ordinary people toward unexpected and often disastrous consequences.
