Story Overview

Eddie the Eagle tells the inspirational true story of Eddie Edwards, a young man who dreams of becoming an Olympic athlete despite lacking the physical attributes typically required for elite-level sports. From an early age, Eddie dedicates his entire life to this singular goal, trying his hand at multiple athletic disciplines in pursuit of Olympic qualification.

After failing to secure a place on the British team for the 1984 Winter Olympics, Eddie makes a bold and unconventional decision: he switches his focus to ski jumping, a sport with virtually no British presence and overwhelming technical challenges. With limited resources, minimal experience, and widespread skepticism, his journey appears nearly impossible from the outset.

Everything changes when Eddie meets a stubborn yet charismatic coach who sees beyond his shortcomings and recognizes his unwavering determination. Through relentless training, painful setbacks, and moments of self-doubt, Eddie pushes past expectations and qualifies for the 1988 Calgary Winter Olympics, achieving what many believed could never be done.

More than a sports film, Eddie the Eagle is a heartfelt celebration of perseverance, individuality, and the courage to chase dreams regardless of the odds. Eddie’s Olympic appearance may not bring medals, but it earns him something far more lasting: the admiration of sports fans around the world and a place in Olympic history.
