Red Planet (2000)
Official Trailer
Plot Summary
Set in the year 2050, Red Planet depicts a future in which Earth stands on the brink of ecological collapse, forcing humanity to seek survival beyond its home world. The last hope lies in the ambitious plan to terraform Mars and establish the first human colony on the red planet.
When a critical malfunction disrupts the Mars Surface Terraforming Program, a high-risk emergency mission is launched under the command of Lieutenant Commander Kate Bowman (Carrie-Anne Moss). Along with a small crew of specialists, Bowman is sent to Mars to investigate the failure and secure humanity’s final chance for survival.
Disaster strikes upon arrival as the spacecraft crash-lands on the Martian surface, leaving the team without a return vehicle and cut off from Earth. Matters worsen when their advanced reconnaissance robot malfunctions and turns hostile, forcing the crew to fight for survival in an environment already deadly by nature.
Stranded on an alien world, the astronauts must confront not only technical failures and dwindling oxygen supplies, but also a far more unsettling mystery. As they explore the Martian terrain, an unexpected question emerges: is Mars truly a lifeless planet, or does it harbor forms of life capable of changing humanity’s understanding of the universe forever?
