Plot Summary

Reconstruction is a haunting and stylistically bold exploration of love, identity, and perception, set against the atmospheric backdrop of Copenhagen. The story follows Alex (Nikolaj Lie Kaas), a young photographer leading a seemingly stable life with his girlfriend Simone (Maria Bonnevie). However, everything changes when he encounters the enigmatic Aimée (Maria Bonnevie) on a metro train and impulsively decides to follow her.

Drawn by an unexplainable connection, Alex and Aimée spend an intense evening together, speaking as if they have known each other for years. Yet when Alex returns home, he is confronted with an impossible reality: his apartment is no longer his, his belongings have vanished, and no one — not even Simone — recognizes him. His past has been erased, leaving him trapped in a disorienting existence where his identity itself seems to have dissolved.

As Alex struggles to reclaim his life, Aimée appears to be the only person who might confirm his reality. But she is far from a simple solution; she is married to August (Krister Henriksson), a writer whose novel uncannily mirrors Alex’s surreal experience.
