Story Overview

Kiss Kiss Bang Bang follows Harry Lockhart, a small-time thief living in New York, portrayed by Robert Downey Jr.. While fleeing the police after a botched robbery, Harry accidentally stumbles into an audition for a film role. Through a bizarre twist of fate, his natural panic and confusion impress the producers, earning him an unexpected ticket to Los Angeles.

In Hollywood, Harry is paired with private detective Gay Perry (Val Kilmer) to prepare for the role by observing real investigations. As Perry schools him in surveillance, crime-solving, and the gritty realities of detective work, Harry finds himself pulled into situations far more dangerous than anything he imagined, blurring the line between acting and real life.

Complicating matters further, Harry reunites with his high school crush Harmony Faith Lane (Michelle Monaghan), an aspiring actress still chasing her big break. Old feelings resurface just as Harry’s fabricated Hollywood persona begins to unravel, exposing his insecurities and lies.

Things spiral out of control when Harry wakes up to discover a dead body in his hotel room and realizes that unknown forces are trying to kill him. What follows is a sharp, self-aware noir adventure filled with double-crosses, dark humor, and rapid-fire dialogue, as a clueless con man, a tough-as-nails gay detective, and a hopeful actress become entangled in a deadly conspiracy that mocks and celebrates classic crime cinema at the same time.
