Plot Summary

Set above the sprawling cityscape of Los Angeles, City of Angels follows Seth, an angel who silently watches over the living while remaining unseen and untouched by the human world. When he encounters heart surgeon Dr. Maggie Rice (Meg Ryan), his eternal detachment begins to fracture.

Dr. Rice is struggling with a profound crisis of faith after inexplicably losing a patient on the operating table. Seth (Nicolas Cage), originally present to guide the dying soul, becomes deeply moved by Maggie’s vulnerability and quiet strength. As he helps her rediscover confidence in her abilities, his fascination turns into love.

For the first time, Seth begins to question the rules of his existence. Drawn to Maggie and the intensity of human emotion, he longs to experience the physical world he has only observed from afar.
