Story Overview

Blow tells the dramatic true story of George Jung, one of the most infamous cocaine traffickers in American history. George Jung (Johnny Depp) grows up in a struggling family where financial hardship shapes his early outlook on life. Determined never to live in poverty again, he becomes increasingly obsessed with finding a way to achieve wealth and success at any cost.

As a young man, George moves to California with his friend Tuna (Ethan Suplee). There, they begin selling marijuana on the beaches, quickly discovering how profitable the illegal trade can be. What starts as a small-time operation soon expands into a much larger enterprise as George learns the mechanics of the drug trade and begins importing drugs from abroad to distribute across multiple states.

With ambition and boldness, George’s business grows rapidly, earning him enormous sums of money and placing him at the center of the booming drug market. However, his rise is eventually interrupted when he is caught attempting to smuggle 250 kilograms of cannabis from Mexico into the United States. Sent to prison, George’s life takes another decisive turn behind bars.

While incarcerated, he becomes acquainted with the world of cocaine trafficking. Upon his release, George returns to the drug trade with far greater ambitions, entering a far more dangerous and lucrative market that will ultimately make him one of the most powerful figures in the international cocaine trade.
