Serena Williams is an American professional tennis player who, as of 2017, has won 23 Grand Slam singles titles. She has also earned three Olympic gold medals in women’s doubles and one Olympic gold medal in women’s singles.
Serena Williams was born on September 26, 1981, in Saginaw, Michigan, United States. Her full name is Serena Jameka Williams. She lives in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, United States, together with her sister Venus Williams. Her father, Richard Williams, is also her coach, while her mother, Oracene Price, is a tennis coach as well. Her parents divorced in 2002. She has siblings named Venus Williams, Yetunde Price, Isha Price, Lyndrea Price, Richard Williams III, Dylan Starr Williams, and Ronner Williams.
Over the years, her numerous victories and championships have made her one of the most successful and important tennis players of modern times. Her sister Venus Williams is also a professional tennis player.
Serena Williams began playing professional tennis at the age of 14 on September 24, 1995. In 1999, she won her first Grand Slam title at the US Open. On January 25, 2003, she won the Australian Open tennis championship.

She withdrew from the Madrid Open held between May 4–17, 2018, due to injury. After returning to the courts in March 2018 following childbirth and playing only four matches, her world ranking dropped to 449.
On September 7, 2018, Serena Williams reached the women’s singles final of the 2018 season’s last Grand Slam tournament, the US Open, held in New York City, United States, where she faced Naomi Osaka. On September 8, 2018, she finished as runner-up after losing to Naomi Osaka in the final.
